Corn mazes are great fun for adults and children alike, and nothing beats the bragging rights of being on the first team to find its way out! Calgary and the surrounding area offer three fantastic options for your entertainment.
The Calgary Corn Maze and Farm Fun is highly-acclaimed. In addition to being southern Alberta’s top maze, it has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor and won the 2014 Parent Choice Award for Best Family Fun Attraction from Calgary’s Child Magazine.
The main maze is spread over 13 acres, and consists of two phases that take between 30-60 minutes to navigate depending on your speed and the number of wrong turns you make. If you’re feeling extra daring, they offer night-time adventures as well where the object is to finish each phase in 45 minutes using only a flashlight and your wits. The three-acre Small Corn Maze, on the other hand, is perfect for first-timers and families with children aged 1-4. This smaller maze takes only 20 minutes and comes with five hidden stations to delight young explorers.
The 2014 season runs from July 25 and October 19. Day passes are $12 + GST for children aged 3-17 and seniors and $13 + GST for adults. Check the website for other admission options.
The Kayben Farms corn maze in Okotoks is one of the seasonal attractions of Kayben’s Sunshine Adventure Park and a permanent fixture of the Pumpkin & Scarecrow Festivals taking place each Saturday in October. Though it isn’t as big as the Calgary Maze, it’s a great option for a family day trip. While you’re there, be sure to check out Jo-Jo’s Café for fantastic local fare and fantastic gluten-free options (Note: Jo-Jo’s is closed between November 1, 2014 and April 30, 2015). The maze is open from late August through October and passes run $12 + GST per person, $35 + GST per family or $9 + GST for seniors above 65. Children aged two and under are free. Check the Kayben Farms website for other admission options and a full schedule of events.
Family owned and operated, Cobb’s corn maze offers numerous activities to people of all ages. You can take your pick from the Robin Hood Maze spread across five acres or the Mini Corn Maze. Recently opened in July 2014, the park’s season runs from July to October. General admission starts from $11.50 + GST. Season passes are also available. Check out the Cobb’s Corn Maze website for full details.
