If you are trapped in your car or caught in an accident, it is helpful to know how to get out of the car to save your life. Here are a few ways you can break out of a car in the event you’re stuck inside.
Escaping From the Trunk
If you ever find yourself trapped in a trunk, you can get out by following these steps.
- Trunk Release Lever: Cars manufactured after 2002 are equipped with a trunk release lever inside the trunk. This is a national law and any car manufactured from 2002 onwards comes equipped with the lever. Therefore, if you ever find yourself trapped in the trunk of a car that was manufactured after 2002, you can use this lever to open the trunk and get out. Trunk release levers usually have a glow in the dark handle and can easily be located.
- Trunk Release Cable: If the car you are stuck in is an older model, you won’t find a trunk release lever in it. To get out of the trunk of such a car you can tug on the trunk release cable. Most cars manufactured in the 80s come equipped with a trunk release cable. The lever for this is located next to the driver’s seat at the bottom. You can pull this cable and the trunk will pop open.
Getting Out Of the Car after an Accident
Getting out of a car after an accident is not easy. There are many times when the doors are jammed because of the collision. Most people ignore the windows and windshields in this case. To get out of a car after an accident you can break the windows and make your way out. To break the windows use any solid object, like the gear lever knob which can be unscrewed. The next best option is to kick the window or windshield.
