Torque Vectoring

Torque vectoring is a technology that is fast gaining popularity in the automobile industry.  It involves the transfer of engine torque to the wheels.  With this technology, the engine of a vehicle will be able to regulate the quantity of power sent to each wheel.  With continuous advancements in automotive technology, many vehicles are now getting equipped, specifically all wheel drive vehicles.

Making use of the torque vectoring technology has a number of benefits:

  • Elevated drive power.  Torque vectoring allows power to any wheel without having to brake or cut power.

  • Improved vehicle safety.  Vehicles that have been equipped with the torque vectoring technology allows another degree of control in inclement weather such as rain, floods, snow and hard to drive areas.

  • Exceptional cornering performance.  Torque vectoring increases vehicle stability.  While turning, a slight braking force can be applied to one side.

  • Torque vectoring enables seamless and instantaneous distribution of torque to a specific wheel one at a time. It is a good way of ensuring the vehicle runs at a given speed at a given time. The driver will be in a position to control the speed at which each wheel will be going. It is possible to activate all-wheel or the two-wheel feature.

  • Increase of vehicle traction.  To increase vehicle performance, the torque can be regulated and determined between the front and wheel wheels.  Generally, a set percentage of the engine torque is already determined.  However, when needed, torque distribution can vary between the front and rear wheels.  This is useful when one wheel is spinning.

Advancements in technology are allowing motorists to have safer car features, features such as Anti lock braking systems, stability control and rollover mitigation systems.  Torque vectoring is another yet advancement and the result may be smarter and safer vehicles.
